It all began quite innocently in the summer of 2001. We were eating pizza at a major chain restaurant one evening, and we saw someone using a hand held computer. As software developers with roots in the hospitality industry, we immediately made the connection – to create new systems for handheld computers to manage the cost of stocking and controlling inventory.

Industry Trends

Mobile, wireless, hand-held computing is a fast-growing segment of the computer industry (estimated to grow at 17.6% per annum).

Since October 2001, when Microsoft released the Pocket PC 2002 operating system, handhelds have offered 65,000 colors, 400MHz processors and larger screens. Some come with a built in camera or a Global Positioning System . Other options include scanners, biometric fingerprint ID security, wireless Internet connection, 802.11 LAN connection, and more all the time.

The trend towards wireless communications provides chains and independent operators the tools and flexibility to manage their inventory more efficiently. Modular Approach

We also recognized the need to make our system affordable. To that end, we have created a stand-alone package, providing all the features, functions, hardware and support designed specifically for independent operators. We are also developing a CRM (Corporate Reporting Module), for larger establishments and chains to more fully utilize the SQL (Sequential Query Language) database that iBarControl employs to provide historical data by store.
